1.) What do you think causes the achiement gap? Lack of support from teachers when students need help. This is because students get more and more work and students start giving up because it seems like breaking a record.

2.) What can students do to close the gap?
-Go to speecial education services
-Be friends with intelligent people who will help out
-Have very high expectations for themselves

3.) What can parents do?
-Look at their child's note to help their child
-Have very high expectations
-see themselves as teachers

4.) What can teachers/schools do?

Have a diverse of teachers from all sorts of races

Questions about Tom Hayden

1. What do you think of Mr. Hayden?
Mr. Hayden was more quiet than Mr. Hicks. He talked about interesting topics that I didn't know about like communism.

2. Tom Hayden does not think of himself as a Civil Rights leader. Do you see him as one? Why or why not?
I do see Tom Hayden as a Civil Rights leader because he was very involved in many organizations like the Vietnam War. He was also concerned on what other leaders like MLK and Malcolm X thought about wars. To add support, when he came to our Ethnic studies classroom he told us about people who he considered leaders but were unkown, which proved that he didn't only admire those who are known with the media.

3. Tom Hayden feels that leaders are not as important as the hundreds or thousands of people behind them. What does he mean by that?
What Tom Hayden means by that was that there are a lot of leaders who he knows that have made an impact in some way but have not been recognized by the media, because the media doesn't think that they are not as important.

I'm really glad it's finally Friday, because this week was pretty awkward for me. I thought I would be going to Arizona today but I'm not going after all. I was also hoping to recieve Mr. Chang's approval for the school nespaper, but I didn't hear anything from him. It's taking forever now to get his approval. Many people said that they would help me out with writing it, but it turns out that they don't want to be in the nespaper anymore becasue they're tired of waiting, but what can I do? .At least there are still a few people who want to be in the newspaper but I want more people. It's like I always want more because I'm never happy...............at least winter break is right around the corner. But I don't know, time seems to go by slow sometimes-especially when there's a lot of work to do. Who knows???

"Stop hurting yourself"

The sighn, "Stop hurting yourself" means to stop slacking off in class, and focus more on work. Last year when I was in the 8th grade, many people wouldn't listen to certain lessons that we were learning on our Science class. Then one afternoon, we were informed by our Science teacher that we were going to be filmed as a class doing a lab. On the day of the lab, many students had no idea with what they were working with, so the lab was INCOMPLETE. This situation affected my Science teacher, because our job was to impress the filmer, not emberass our teacher; when cleary she would teach. Basically what the quote is saying is that you are not only hurting yourself, but your fellow classmates by wasting your/our time and not learning.
